Inspiration & Journey

A Lifelong Calling

For Hope, the desire to teach started right at the beginning of her own education. Knowing since kindergarten that the classroom was her calling, she was deeply influenced by the positive role models in her own life—sharing a special shout-out to her kindergarten teacher, Ms. Whitson, and her high school Spanish teacher, Ms. Pitts. Her core driving force has always been a love for helping others and witnessing the exact moment a student lights up with pride after accomplishing a goal.

Dedication to Early Childhood

Since entering the field in 2019, she has dedicated her career to the preschool level and has taught in two different schools. In her classrooms, she seamlessly supports both general education and special education students, ensuring every child gets a strong, supportive foundation.

Classroom Insights & Impact

Small Moments, Big Breakthroughs

For most educators there is a driving force that keeps them going, especially on difficult days. For Hope, one of the experiences is watching young minds grasp new concepts and display skills for the very first time. Among these milestones, the most unforgettable success story involves hearing her nonverbal students find their voice and communicate verbally for the first time.

More Than Academics

Beyond early academic skills, she designs her classroom to be a safe place. Her ultimate goal is for every preschooler to leave her care with a deep, lasting sense of:

  • Community
  • Love
  • Belonging

Reflection & Resilience

Education moves at a relentless, ever-changing pace. Hope believes that adapting to this environment is a daily victory—one that is impossible to achieve alone. Success relies entirely on constant collaboration, teamwork, and communication with her fellow teachers and assistants. Teaching serves as a daily reminder for her that change is life’s only constant. To thrive, she believes one must commit to continuous personal and professional development, never stopping the pursuit of new skills.

Beyond the Classroom

Summer Plans

Hope’s dedication to leadership and youth development doesn’t stop when the school year ends. This summer, you can find her working at a summer camp, serving in dual roles as the Program Director and a lifeguard.

Words of Wisdom: Advice for New Teachers

“Remember that you will not be perfect out of the gate. It’s okay to make mistakes and ask for help. Just remember: ‘You are brave, strong, and courageous. You can do hard things.'”

Conclusion

Hope Smith’s impact extends far beyond the walls of her preschool classroom. By instilling confidence, fostering a tight-knit community, and embracing continuous growth, she sets her young learners on a path of lifelong curiosity and resilience. Whether she is teaching empathy in the classroom or leading programs at summer camp, her dedication to lifting up others is truly inspiring. We are incredibly fortunate to have Tennessee educators like Hope who remind us all that with the right support, we can all do hard things. Thank you, Hope, for everything you do!
